Venice is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most unique cities in the world. Built on over one hundred small islands, separated by canals and linked by over four hundred bridges the city of Venice is a remarkable location, whether your interest lies in the classic views that have made the city famous or in decaying details and architectural cameos, this city is a photographer’s dream.

Fog and mist can cloak the city in an air of mystery but when the sun breaks through the city becomes like a giant film set, ready for you to shoot. With incredible architecture from St Marks Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and the mighty Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute to the back streets of the Dorsoduro and Cannaregio there are views, street scenes (canal scenes), quiet squares and bustling markets, something to delight every photographic taste and genre.

This photographic tour is designed to take in the classic locations and views but also to explore the back streets and canals, to get off the beaten track a little and lose ourselves away from the main tourist hot spots. You will be encouraged to see and think in black and white, as well as to use colour creatively, to look for the simple and eloquent image that tells a story, perhaps to spend a day without a tripod and explore and shoot like a street photographer.

Venice is truly a wonderful city with so many locations to shoot, streets and canals to explore. And if you want to sit and relax, sip an Aperol Spritz and watch the world go by, why not? There will be no pressure to rush to the next location, we will take our time, shoot images, relax and enjoy one of the most spectacular cities in the world.

• Warm waterproof clothing and walking boots.

• A reasonable degree of fitness is required as there will be some walking to locations over rough terrain.
